About Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti

The Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti is an academy whose aim is "the advancement, dissemination and protection of the sciences, literature and arts " (article 1 of the Statute). The purpose of the academies is to bring together outstanding figures from the world of scholarship to autonomously promote cultural, social and economic life.

The Institute is headed by a Governing Board consisting of a president, vice-president, administrator and two academic secretaries. The appointments of the president, the vice-president and the members are confirmed by decree of the Ministry for Cultural Assets and Activities. The Governing Board is assisted by a secretarial office coordinated by the secretary-registrar.

The Institute is composed of two classes: the class of mathematical, physical and natural sciences; and the class of moral sciences, literature and arts.

Its activities are mainly financed by funds and bequests administered by the Istituto, including those of Angelo Minich (1817-93) and Pompeo Molmenti (1852-1928). Financial contributions are also made by the Ministry for Cultural Assets and Activities, by the Ministry for Universities and Scientific Research and by the Regione Veneto.
