Venezia - Senato MistiFrom the time of its origin in the thirteenth century, the Pregadi Council, known as the senate, was the most important decision-making body in defining the Venetian State’s policies. It not only discussed questions of public order and business, but also matters regarding the field of international relations and of war and peace.
The records of the deliberations, held at the Archivio di Venezia, are an important source of knowledge on the history of Europe and the Levant in critical years.
The Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, with the contribution of the Fondazione di Venezia, is publishing the first 20 records still extant, covering the period between 1335 and 1381 (War of Chioggia).
